Here’s How to Budget Energy Drinks

Energy drinks are notoriously expensive. I’m going to show you how to save money on them and where to buy them.

#1. Admit Defeat

Yep. Admit defeat. You are never going to stop drinking them. You will never get your partner to stop either. The Good Lord knows I have tried. I personally quit energy drinks many years ago but my partner loves them. I have tried so many times and so many different tactics to get him to quit these awful things. I’ve given up. I have accepted that energy drinks are something I must buy to keep my partner happy and caffeinated.

#2. Add it to your Budget

We have a budget category for energy drinks just for Nicholas. I set aside $100 every two weeks. That’s $200 a month. Does that sound crazy? I think it does. But, it makes Nicholas happy and keeps him caffeinated. Budgets are supposed to be realistic. This cost is realistic for my family. I’m not here to tell you to cut all unnecessary spending and survive off rice and beans. I’m here to tell you how to manage a very realistic purchase.

#3. Buy it in Bulk

We buy energy drinks by the case. They don’t really expire and Nicholas drinks 2-3 a day. Buying in bulk is also more cost effective than nickel and dime-ing yourself to death buying the single ones. We keep the cases in the garage with the rest of our soda. We generally purchase them from Costco in bulk.

#4. Buy it from Amazon

Energy drinks hardly ever go on sale. Amazon is the cheapest price I’ve found them. If you buy them with subscribe and save you’re at least saving 5%. Just don’t forget to cancel the subscription! I’ve also noticed that sometimes there will be sales, like an additional 20% off, if you do subscribe and save.

My last tip is to not add energy drinks into your grocery budget category. With how expensive these are it would wipe out your grocery budget. Keep it separate and decide on what a justifiable cost for the category is. Having a separate budget category for a purchase like energy drinks will eliminate so much stress and fights about it. Again, budgets are realistic. Be realistic with what you are actually spending on energy drinks.
